Health: Haiti Signs Declaration of World Forum on Health Sustainability in Taiwan

The Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Bertrand Sinal, initialed, on November 18, the ministerial declaration of the 2025 World Health and Well-being Forum on global health sustainability, held in Taiwan. This framework document commits Haiti, alongside several countries, to an international dynamic aimed at strengthening Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and modernizing health systems in the face of current and future crises. At the heart of this declaration are five priority areas, approved by the Haitian government: promotion of international solidarity, sustainable healthcare financing, inclusive innovation, climate resilience of health infrastructure, and strengthening monitoring and accountability. The initiative particularly emphasizes the ethical use of artificial intelligence and digital tools, as well as improved access to health services for vulnerable populations. On the sidelines of the Forum, the Embassy of Haiti in Taiwan received Dr. Sinal, accompanied by Dr. Joseph Vilaime Alexis, a visit publicly welcomed by Ambassador Stanley Penn, highlighting the diplomatic importance of this participation. This signing comes as the country faces significant economic constraints, security challenges, and increasing pressure on its hospital system. For the MSPP (Ministry of Public Health and Population), engagement within this international framework represents an opportunity to mobilize more partnerships, resources, and expertise to improve access to care and accelerate structural reforms. The next step will be to translate these commitments into concrete national actions, particularly in budget planning, health governance, and infrastructure modernization. In a context where health remains a major issue for social stability, Haiti hopes that this international impetus will contribute to building a more equitable, sustainable, and protective system for all.
