There are many editorials. Yet, who truly speaks plainly, or without “filters” as some would say? Press articles are found everywhere, analyses too, and as for online media, they multiply day after day. But one question remains unavoidable: who is finally speaking out?
Who to read, who to believe, who to turn to? To whom do we owe the truth, and what truth, if there is one?
Swept away by the digital wave, media and politics are still trying to regain their balance. It is therefore essential today to master one's sources well and to choose judiciously where to get information, because, with all due respect to some, a good citizen must be aware of the city's affairs. And what better than reliable media for that?
Today, our objective is neither to question the work of the media nor to praise it. We propose instead an awareness-raising effort by clarifying our dual role: that of citizen and that of media director.
Propaganda, fake news, information manipulation, etc. These methods are often used by some to protect their personal interests. Who truly benefits from this? Everyone has their point of view or position that deserves respect. But what about the TRUTH?
In the wrong hands, nothing is more dangerous than these tools which, in some cases, serve to manipulate public opinion. For, whoever controls public opinion controls the people and, by extension, political life. And perhaps life itself.
In the current sociopolitical context of our country, it is everyone's responsibility, particularly conventional or online media, to question and demand concrete actions from our leaders, while respecting the ethical standards of the profession.
We, media directors, journalists, or influencers, have a duty to properly inform and educate the public on current affairs. Let us avoid propaganda or manipulation, whether pro or anti-governmental. As Yasmina Khadra, the Franco-Algerian author for whom we have great esteem, said: “there must be no excess on either side”.
Everyone shouts, everyone screams, but who truly listens? CPT, opposition, cassation, the street, etc… just words! The proposals are numerous, alternatives are everywhere. But as soon as it comes to implementing ideas, it's a total void, or even DIVISION.
For once, let every person and every branch of society take responsibility. Let's change, evolve, condemn if necessary, and build a new Haiti. We, citizens, want to understand in order to better analyze and propose solutions for the future.
Down with information manipulation, long live truth and long live democracy.
