PORT-AU-PRINCE.— The Haitian League for Human Rights Defense (LHDDH) has extended its congratulations to the new Director General of the Haitian National Police (PNH), André Jonas Vladimir Paraison, highlighting his career marked by professionalism, bravery, courage, and dedication to public service.
According to the organization, this appointment is «the result of a rigorous selection based on the experience of the new commander-in-chief», considered not an «outsider», but a seasoned public security actor.
A career marked by bravery
Even before his official appointment, the LHDDH states that it conducted an in-depth investigation into Mr. Paraison's past. It notably recalls his role as head of security for the National Palace and his act of bravery during an operation at Champ de Mars, where he was shot in the leg while assisting police officers attacked at the Port-au-Prince Police Station.
«This act illustrates his unwavering commitment to the national cause and is a source of inspiration for all law enforcement», the League declared.
A key witness in the Jovenel Moïse case
Speaking on the Thermomètre program on Radio Solidarité, the Executive Director of the LHDDH, Jemps Méralus, recalled Mr. Paraison's decisive role in the investigation into the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, on the night of July 6 to 7, 2021. His testimony had, according to him, helped to clear doubts about the transparency of the process that led to his appointment.
Call for rigor against corruption
The LHDDH took advantage of this stance to reiterate its commitment to respecting fundamental rights and integral governance. Jemps Méralus calls on judicial authorities to: «act rigorously against all forms of corruption within state institutions», a condition deemed essential to guarantee the rule of law.
For the League, the arrival of André Jonas Vladimir Paraison at the head of the PNH represents a strategic advance in national security and institutional transparency. It promises to remain vigilant in its role as a citizen counter-power, while supporting efforts to strengthen the rule of law in Haiti.
