Happy Birthday to the Apostle of Human Rights in Haiti!

On this June 28, 2025, I wish to highlight the birthday of a true pillar of human rights in Haiti: Pierre Espérance. On this occasion, La Gonâve, his native island, joins Cabinet Le Prétoire, a law firm, in a festive and warm atmosphere, to celebrate our Pierre Espérance — this symbol of national pride, who has forged his path, not without hardship or pain, in a context often marked by indifference, even hostility, from certain conservatives allergic to the rights of the people. For Haiti is a country both difficult and curious. This year, this celebration holds particular significance, in a context where not only human rights are violated, but our very humanity is constantly questioned. Nevertheless, in the field of human rights, Pierre Espérance remains unyielding and tireless. He relentlessly defends what he believes to be just and forcefully denounces everything that threatens humanity. Humans have rights, and they are asserted everywhere. This movement is universal. From Port-au-Prince to Ottawa, via Beijing, people demand more rights and insist that they be protected and guaranteed. If there is an ultimate purpose to history, it is indeed rights. For those who violate them should always be prosecuted, wherever they may hide — even if it is regrettable that this is not always the case in this world gone mad, where powers wage war. It is on this universal ground that Pierre Espérance stands, in his quest for justice for humanity. He is a universal man, for having made his life a commitment, placing his destiny in the balance of history. Hats off! I invite you to continue your work in favor of justice and truth. Nothing is perfect. The transition from maturity to perfection is a long path made of successes, mistakes, and constant self-reflection, since the goal is not to destroy, but to build a humanity founded on rights, as the culmination of history.
