PORT-AU-PRINCE.— Konbit Òganize pou Evolisyon Mas yo (KOZEMAS) denounces the maneuvers by CPT members to extend their mandate beyond February 7, 2026. The organization positions itself as a defender of democracy, national sovereignty, and the dignity of the Haitian people.
Indeed, according to KOZEMAS, it is a trial balloon launched to test national and international public opinion by circulating persistent rumors suggesting that CPT members aspire to seek an extension of their mandate beyond February 7, 2026, from CARICOM. KOZEMAS protests against this idea, considering it a blatant attack on the foundational norms of this transition.
"This idea is perceived not only as contempt for the intelligence of the Haitian people, but also a violation of the very principles governing the political transition," declared Amos Louis, spokesperson for KOZEMAS.
KOZEMAS officials recall that the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT) was established to restore constitutional order through the organization of elections that are both free and inclusive. "The initial moments are marked by indecision and the absence of an electoral calendar; the only action that seems to be imposing itself is a new attempt to prolong power, akin to usurpation rather than a true transition," Louis emphasized.
KOZEMAS also rebels against the unacceptable behavior of certain foreign actors, notably the Kenyan envoy, who had the audacity to discuss the political future of Haiti without a mandate or legitimacy. "This behavior, far from being helpful, reveals the lingering traces of neocolonial paternalism that disregards Haitian sovereignty," Louis judged, recalling that only the legitimate voices of the Haitian people can determine their destiny.
"The discussions that took place in the Dominican Republic, a country often at odds with Haiti, add to the anguish and humiliation already felt," stated the KOZEMAS spokesperson, outlining clear and imperative demands such as:
- Strict adherence to the mandate of the Transitional Presidential Council and the cessation of any desire for prolongation beyond February 7, 2026.
- The urgent publication of a credible and consensual electoral calendar.
- The immediate withdrawal of any foreign initiative that attempts to represent the interests of the Haitian people without democratic legitimacy.
- The consolidation of an inter-Haitian dialogue based on transparency, trust, and the inclusion of civil society.
The association does not entirely reject the idea of international aid but calls for cooperation based on mutual respect, justice, and the recognition of Haitian sovereignty, insisting that Haiti has no need for self-proclaimed guardians or representatives.
In this context of political turbulence, coupled with a humanitarian crisis in the country, KOZEMAS calls on stakeholders to respect the terms of reference of the transition without any attempt at compromise. Placing itself at the forefront to amplify the demanding voice of the Haitian people, KOZEMAS states its commitment to remain a bastion of resistance and hope, shaping a future where democracy and the dignity of the Haitian people will prevail.
