The Secretary-General of the citizen movement Kasasyon Nou Prale (KNP) spoke this Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at a press conference held at the Ritzkinam Hotel in Pétion-Ville, to strongly denounce the critical situation facing the Haitian population.

Alarming Economic and Social Crisis The Secretary-General highlighted the country's economic collapse, characterized by persistent inflation which, although down from its peak of 49.3% in January 2023, remains high at 29.3% in August 2024, according to the World Bank. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita is estimated at 1,693 US dollars in 2023, placing Haiti among the poorest countries in the region. This precarious economic situation results in widespread poverty, with 36.6% of the population living on less than 2.15 dollars per day. The Secretary-General denounced the authorities' inaction in the face of this social distress, exacerbated by food insecurity affecting more than 5.4 million Haitians. Suspicions of Corruption within the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT) The Secretary-General expressed strong concerns regarding allegations of corruption and influence peddling within the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT). He called for a transparent and independent investigation to shed light on these accusations, emphasizing that such practices undermine the people's trust in their institutions and hinder national recovery efforts. Violence Against Black Women in the Dominican Republic The Secretary-General also denounced the violence and discrimination suffered by black Haitian women in the Dominican Republic. He urged the Dominican authorities to respect human rights and put an end to these abuses, calling on the international community to closely monitor the situation and intervene if necessary to protect vulnerable populations. Call to Action and Solidarity In conclusion, the KNP Secretary-General launched an urgent appeal for the mobilization of all sectors of Haitian society, including the diaspora, to work together for the country's reconstruction.
