222nd Anniversary of Toussaint Louverture's Death: The CPT Pays a Well-Deserved Tribute

PORT-AU-PRINCE.___ A solemn commemoration ceremony in honor of the precursor of Haiti's independence was organized this Monday, April 7, 2025, at the Villa d'accueil. Toussaint Louverture, an emblematic figure in the struggle to free Haiti from slavery.

The President of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT), Fritz Alphonse Jean, accompanied by some members of the Council and his administration, including Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, as well as high-ranking military and police officials, led this ceremony, marked by respect and devotion.

In his remarks for the occasion, Fritz Alphonse Jean emphasized the crucial importance of this date in Haitian history. He recalled that Toussaint Louverture is not only a national hero but also a symbol of resistance against slavery.

“This day must be a moment of reflection for every Haitian, to meditate on the actions and legacy left by this illustrious precursor of freedom,” emphasized Fritz A. Jean, calling on the Haitian population to uphold the ideals of their ancestors. “The preservation of the memory of Toussaint Louverture and other national heroes is essential to guide the country towards a better future,” he affirmed.

In this regard, the Transitional Presidential Council has committed to following the path of the ancestors to guide the nation towards new promising prospects.

More than a simple commemoration, this tribute to Toussaint Louverture embodies a true call to civic engagement and collective reflection, advised President-Counselor Jean, recalling the necessity and importance of cherishing the values of national freedom and dignity to build a better future for posterity.
