Official exams for 9th Fundamental Year students began this Monday, June 30, 2025. On this occasion, the Minister of National Education and Vocational Training visited an examination center to assess the progress of the tests.
Ministry's Satisfaction
Minister Augustin ANTOINE chose to visit the examination center located at Lycée Horatius Laventure, in Delmas 75. He wished to personally observe the atmosphere of this center, which hosts nearly 350 students, and to speak with the candidate support staff and the supervisors.
During his visit, Augustin ANTOINE expressed his satisfaction to the press cameras. He commended the efforts made by parents, students, teachers, and school principals to successfully complete a particularly difficult school year.
Reception of Displaced Students
In the West Department, more than 71,000 students from over 3,100 schools are participating in the official 9th Fundamental Year exams, stated Etienne Louisseul FRANCE, the Departmental Director of Education for the West.
He specified that students from violence-affected areas are reporting to the nearest school districts. Thus, candidates from the Croix-des-Bouquets district are accommodated in Tabarre, those from Ganthier in Tabarre and Fonds-Parisien, and students from Port-au-Prince in Delmas.
Etienne Louisseul FRANCE also mentioned the case of 124 candidates from the Central Lower Plateau, mainly from the commune of Saut-d’Eau, who are taking exams in the Tabarre district.
Insidious Coexistence
Furthermore, a worrying phenomenon deserves to be highlighted. In Carrefour, a commune without police presence for several years, students took the exams under the protection of armed men, in a climate of tranquility.
These individuals, dressed in black and heavily armed, ensured the security of the centers in collaboration with the supervisors and officials designated by the Ministry of National Education, in an area where state authority is completely absent. This insidious coexistence illustrates the decay of state institutions, replaced by substitute authorities.
Preliminary reports for the entire country indicate that, among the 810 examination centers, 250 are located in the West Department, representing over 30%. All tests proceeded without incident, including in Carrefour, an atypical commune where populations, businesses, schools, hospitals, churches, and armed gangs coexist.
According to the MENFP Communication Office, 187,419 9th Fundamental Year candidates are participating in the exams this year, in addition to 2,308 candidates from Teacher Training Colleges and Early Childhood Educators (ENIJE) and 424 candidates from Family Education Centers (CEF). The first series of exams runs from June 30 to July 3, 2025.
