This Thursday, August 7, 2025, Laurent Saint-Cyr officially took office as coordinator of the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT). From the private sector and a former member of the High Transitional Court, he reiterated that national security is a priority and that he came for all Haitians, without distinction or privileged sector.
Discreet and not prone to public speaking, the new head of the CPT succeeds Fritz Alphonse Jean, whose mandate was deemed insufficient. The solemn installation ceremony took place at the Villa d'Accueil, in the presence of the other councilor-presidents, diplomatic representatives, and institutional figures.
Security at the Heart of His Priorities
In his inaugural address, Laurent Saint-Cyr delivered a clear and serious message. He emphasized the urgency of acting effectively against the violence plaguing the country: « Too much blood has already been shed; the time has come to act ». He placed security at the heart of his priorities and called for transparency, strict adherence to public funds, and efficient and rigorous management.
Leadership from the Private Sector, United to Serve the Nation
Saint-Cyr now embodies the voice of the private sector in the transitional executive, which holds two key positions with the presidency of the CPT and the Prime Minister's Office occupied by Alix Didier Fils Aimé. He urges all ministers, general directors, and civil servants to serve all Haitians, without any discrimination.
He promised to work for the unity and cohesion of the Council so that it can act effectively and bring the population the results it expects: security, the adoption of the Constitution, economic recovery, and… the holding of elections.
Laurent Saint-Cyr inherits a Presidential Council plagued by internal divisions and a deep security crisis. His assumption of office comes amid strong public expectations, particularly to combat armed gangs and restore public order. He also sent a firm and clear message to armed groups: « Gangs will not have the last word », asserts the new president.
For his part, his predecessor Fritz Alphonse Jean recalled that the transfer of power is a symbol of political alternation. His presidency was characterized by internal tensions and stalemates within the council itself. His very few achievements fade away with the wind. Despite his divisive speech, Jean hopes that the transition will allow hope to continue to grow among the population.
CP members favorable to the new president
Smith Augustin, a member of the CPT, on X, welcomed Laurent Saint-Cyr's assumption of office: « As a statesman committed to republican values, I am fully engaged in working alongside him and with the entire Council to restore security, concretely improve the living conditions of the population, and guarantee the upcoming realization of free and credible elections in the country. #Haitifirst »
Speeches, words, an expectation of concrete action from a suffering population. The restoration of security at all costs, followed by the organization of elections, remain the real challenges ahead.
