Nenel Cassy, between liberation and popular support: a political struggle under tension

Senator Nenel Cassy's name is once again at the forefront of Haitian political news. Questioned by the Port-au-Prince prosecutor's office, then released, the former parliamentarian finds himself at the center of a lively controversy, fueled by cross-accusations and mobilizations by his supporters.

In a recently released video, his sympathizers had denounced what they consider to be attempts at boycott and political persecution aimed at hindering the senator's actions and removing him from the national political scene. According to them, organized groups are working to neutralize his influence and prevent the continuation of his commitment.

Despite these pressures, Nenel Cassy's supporters show unwavering determination. They affirm that these maneuvers will not diminish their resolve to continue the political struggle and work towards taking power, in order to implement their agenda for change, which they present as a credible and profound alternative for Haiti.

This affair also prompted an immediate reaction from the spokesperson for the Democratic and Popular Sector, Me André Michel, who denounced a "two-tiered" justice system. In a message published on social media, he recalled that while Nenel Cassy and Rosemila Petit Frère Sainvil are behind bars, other political figures, such as former president Michel Martelly and his relatives accused of gang activity in the country and plundering state coffers, have never been troubled by Haitian justice.

Between accusations of judicial selectivity and popular mobilization around him, Nenel Cassy appears today as a symbol of a political confrontation that could reshape the balance of power on the national scene. It remains to be seen whether his appearance before justice will strengthen or weaken his role in the quest for political change in Haiti.
