Six Dead and Over Nine Injured in Canapé-Vert Accident

PORT-AU-PRINCE.— A serious traffic accident saddened the capital this Saturday late afternoon. Around 4:30 PM, a truck collided with a public transport minibus on the Canapé-Vert road, causing the death of six people and injuring about ten others, some seriously.

According to witnesses, the violence of the impact was such that several passengers were trapped in the vehicle's debris, requiring urgent intervention from emergency services. The injured were transported to various hospitals in the capital, where several of them are still in critical condition.

While the precise circumstances of the accident are yet to be determined, initial information suggests a possible mechanical failure, particularly a brake problem with the involved truck. An investigation has been opened to shed full light on this tragedy, according to authorities who have not yet released an official report.

Victims' families and local residents, still in shock, are calling for the implementation of urgent measures to improve road safety and ensure better traffic regulation, in a context where tragedies seem to be becoming almost daily occurrences.
