In Iraq and Lebanon, authorities are concerned about a threat to peace in the Middle East. Iraq, for its part, condemned the American strikes on nuclear sites in Iran, seeing them as a military escalation that threatens security and peace in the Middle East, and gravely endangers regional stability. "Military solutions cannot replace dialogue and diplomacy," pleaded Iraqi government spokesperson Bassem Alawadi, specifying that continued strikes would lead to a dangerous escalation whose repercussions would extend beyond the borders of any state. In Lebanon, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam stated that his country must stay out of this escalation of tensions. The UN deplores a dangerous escalation The United Nations (UN), for its part, expressed concern about American involvement in the Middle East conflict. "This is a dangerous escalation in a region already on edge, and a direct threat to peace and security in the world," deplored United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. In the rest of the world British Prime Minister Keir Starmer deplored on X an "unstable situation in the Middle East." "Iran cannot under any circumstances be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon and the United States has taken steps to mitigate this threat," he nevertheless believes in reaction to the American strikes. In Asia, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba indicated that he would hold an emergency meeting this Sunday with his key ministers, according to Associated Press. The same applies to South Korea. In Australia, a government official stated that they had clearly indicated that Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile program constitutes a threat to international peace and security. "We note the American president's statement that the time has come for peace," he added. New Zealand's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Winston Peters, for his part, urged all parties to resume negotiations, concerned by what he considers to be the most serious crisis he has faced. "Diplomacy will provide a more lasting solution than further military action," he maintained. Jean Mapou
