The United States Intends to Deport Legal Permanent Residents Linked to the Viv Ansanm Terrorist Organization

In an official statement released this Monday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a series of measures targeting legal permanent residents of the United States accused of collaborating with the terrorist organization Viv Ansanm in Haiti. According to the statement, the State Department has identified several individuals holding legal permanent resident status in the United States, suspected of having provided active support to gang leaders in Haiti affiliated with Viv Ansanm, considered a key driver of the violence and instability currently plaguing Haiti. “The United States will not tolerate individuals benefiting from the privileges of legal status on our soil while supporting violent or terrorist entities,” Marco Rubio affirmed. He emphasized that these activities pose a direct threat to U.S. foreign policy and national security. Under this decision, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is now authorized to initiate deportation proceedings against the individuals concerned, based on section 237(a)(4)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. This section provides for the deportation of any person whose presence in U.S. territory could have adverse consequences for the country's foreign policy. This announcement is in line with the Trump administration's tough stance on national security and the fight against transnational terrorism. It also reflects Washington's firm commitment to strengthening stability in the Caribbean region, where the Haitian crisis continues to cause deep concern. Viv Ansanm, already sanctioned by the United States as a foreign terrorist organization, is accused of maintaining a climate of terror in Haiti through criminal activities ranging from kidnapping for ransom to arms trafficking and political corruption. This decision could also have a deterrent effect on others involved in logistical or financial support for violent groups, whether in the United States or elsewhere.
