For several months, Haiti has been experiencing an unprecedented security crisis, marked by the increasing grip of armed groups over large portions of the national territory, particularly in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince.
This chaotic situation, fueled by the proliferation of gangs, the absence of effective law enforcement, and the weakness of institutions, gravely threatens the country's stability. Faced with this impasse, a Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) was established by the agreement of April 03, 2024, with the objective of restoring constitutional order, stabilizing the country, and preparing free and credible elections.
This council, composed of representatives from various political parties and civil society sectors, should embody a collegial and inclusive solution, but alas, it is rather a marathon for as much power as possible.
Despite the presence of the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission, one year later, this force, lacking adequate equipment and materials, supported by the United Nations, is slow to demonstrate its usefulness and effectiveness. Its deterrent capacity is nonexistent.
Haiti's history is known to all; it is the mother of liberty and a source of positive inspiration for all those who fight for the right to life in particular and for human rights in general. Over time, all continents have benefited from the Haitian revolution.
Yet Haiti is disappearing under a severe crisis amidst the indifference of a large part of the international community, in complacency with a transitional power that cannot achieve the set objectives, the main one being the holding of credible elections to hand over power to constitutional authorities on February 7, 2026.
It is essential that the international community return to the discussion table with the different sectors of the Republic of Haiti within an expanded framework to re-evaluate the country's political, security, and humanitarian situation, in order to rethink a concrete and objective way out of the crisis that should in no way reward the authors of this failure.
A political and patriotic awakening, both internal and international, is crucial.
