On the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly, the President of Haiti's Transitional Presidential Council, Laurent Saint-Cyr, held a series of major discussions in New York. He met with UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, as well as influential members of the Haitian diaspora on issues of security, elections, and development.
In New York, on Monday, September 22, 2025, the President of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT), H.E. Laurent Saint-Cyr, met with United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly. Antonio Guterres commended the efforts undertaken within the framework of the Haitian transition, congratulating the head of the CPT for his leadership and emphasizing the importance of his collaboration with Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé. He reaffirmed the UN's commitment to support Haiti in strengthening peace, security, and stability, essential conditions for the success of the transition's undertakings.
The day before, on September 21, Laurent Saint-Cyr participated in a roundtable organized by the Consulate General of Haiti in New York, bringing together members of the Haitian community, government officials, and diaspora leaders.
The meeting, held under the theme « Rebuilding the Haitian Army: Security and Stability for Haiti », focused on three priorities: security, elections, and immigration. The Secretary of State for Public Security, Mario Andrésol, as well as defense experts and diaspora representatives also participated.
« It seemed essential to me to meet with you even before beginning my participation in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. I do so out of respect, because I am above all a servant of the Nation, but also to bear witness to the importance of the full and complete involvement of the Haitian diaspora, » declared Laurent Saint-Cyr.
He insisted on the necessity of national unity to find lasting solutions to the current crisis and reaffirmed his commitment to integrate the diaspora into the political and institutional life of the country.
Facing persistent security and institutional challenges, the President of the CPT reiterated the authorities' determination to restore order, organize credible elections, and guarantee future generations peace, stability, and sustainable development.
Meetings and promises, certainly, but the situation in Haiti remains unchanged. On the international stage, Haitian authorities continue to solicit aid, without any concrete results having been obtained yet.
Furthermore, on the eve of the end of the mandate of the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission, Kenyan President William Ruto requested a meeting during which he discussed the mission's « successes ». For their part, the United States once again put forward its proposal, co-authored with Panama, aiming at establishing a gang suppression force, which is expected to comprise 5,500 agents.
It only remains to wait for the coming days, recalling that by October 2, the current mission will come to an end.
