Assassination of Jovenel Moïse: Former Prime Minister Lapin Proposes a Panel of Judges to Pursue the Case

July 7, 2025 marks the fourth anniversary of the assassination of former President Jovenel Moïse. In an interview with our editorial team, former Prime Minister Jean Michel Lapin expresses great skepticism about the progress of the case and proposes a panel of judges to establish the truth in this matter.

Indeed, Mr. Jean Michel Lapin, a close associate of the former president, expresses his doubts about the imminent conclusion of this case. He firmly believes that a panel of judges ruling on this case would be the best approach to establish the truth.

“Jovenel's case is being handled at several levels, both in the United States and in Haiti. Doubts persist about the outcome of the case. I believe it is a panel of judges that should investigate the matter for a better result,” he declared.

For him, this slowness observed in the case on the part of the Haitian justice system is probably due to this anomaly. Furthermore, Mr. Lapin stated that he noted shortcomings in the hearings.

“Other crucial individuals must be included in the hearings,” he insisted, while asking, “where are the police officers and their hierarchical superiors who were guarding the residence of the late Jovenel Moïse?”

While remaining confident, the former head of Jovenel Moïse's government hopes that the Court of Appeal will conduct a thorough investigation to lead the case towards the truth.

It should be noted that this Monday, July 7, the former Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Renald Luberice, was heard by the Port-au-Prince Court of Appeal, still as part of the investigation into this assassination.
