Port-au-Prince, August 13, 2025 – Laurent Saint-Cyr, coordinator of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT), continues his series of consultations aimed at bringing together the nation's vital forces around a common objective: restoring stability and preparing credible elections. After exchanging on Monday with former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, Laurent Saint-Cyr met on Tuesday morning with former President Jocelerme Privert. The discussion, described as "frank and constructive," focused on governance, urgent reforms, and the need to create a secure environment conducive to elections. "It is essential to return to constitutional order and put the country on the path to stability," affirmed Laurent Saint-Cyr. This Wednesday, August 13, the CPT coordinator also met with former President Prosper Avril. Discussions focused on security and elections, with a particular emphasis on strengthening the Armed Forces of Haiti (FADH). The two men stressed the importance of providing the army with the necessary means to fulfill its mission and fostering close cooperation between the army and the police to intensify the fight against criminal groups. For his part, former President Jocelerme Privert insisted on the urgency of re-establishing security as a prerequisite for addressing major national issues, including constitutional reform and the holding of credible elections. The native of Nippes praised Laurent Saint-Cyr's initiatives and encouraged him to continue his efforts to raise awareness among political actors, through inclusive dialogue, with a view to a successful outcome for a transition that has stretched on for five years. These consultations are part of an approach of dialogue and national unity. However, many question their impact, while others see them as a waste of time. This transitional period is nevertheless decisive, but the results, for now, are trickling in. While the representative of the private sector must hand over power to legitimate elected officials, time is running out. The mission is clear: restore security and organize elections before February 7, 2026. It is a true race against time, in a context where insecurity continues to deteriorate.
