The tragic death of student Zamy Wanderson, killed last Tuesday during a demonstration organized by teachers in front of the Ministry of National Education premises in Delmas 83, continues to spark a wave of outrage across the country.
The Executive Honors Wanderson's Memory
The Prime Minister's Office and the Haitian Presidency reacted the very next day, expressing their dismay at this assassination attributed to a ministry security agent. In a statement published on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, the Prime Minister's Office declared:
« It is with deep sorrow and boundless indignation that the Prime Minister's Office learned of the assassination of the young schoolboy Wanderson Zamy, aged nineteen. »
Condemning « an odious and barbaric act », the Prime Minister's Office assures that the State will not remain impassive and announces that it has given firm instructions for full light to be shed and for those responsible to be swiftly brought to justice.
For its part, the Presidency, through the Transitional Presidential Council, also reacted firmly:
« The State cannot remain impassive in the face of such an act. The president calls on the government and all competent institutions to mobilize with the utmost rigor and swiftness to elucidate the circumstances of this tragedy. The memory of Zamy Wanderson, like that of all lives cut short by this spiral of violence, rekindles our collective will to stand united. »
The two branches of the executive took the opportunity to extend their condolences to the family, loved ones, and the educational community, while reaffirming their commitment to strengthening national security:
« In the name of the Republic and the Haitian State, the presidency renews its solidarity and commitment to stand by the youth and families severely affected, as the State remains mobilized to restore security and build a better future for every son and daughter of this country. »
A Parents' Association Demands Accountability
Beyond official reactions, several voices are rising within civil society. The Association of Parents of Students of Haiti (ASPAEDH), through its spokesperson Confident Fedner, expressed its deep sorrow and concern.
« I feel saddened, anxious, troubled by this news, » he declared, before denouncing the repetition of such abuses by ministry security agents. ASPAEDH demands that the Ministry of National Education immediately hand over the security agent involved in the murder to justice, so that this crime does not go unpunished.
The association also calls for a serious and swift investigation and invites all organizations working in the educational field to provide support to the victim's family during this painful period.
A Tragedy That Challenges the Entire Nation
The murder of Zamy Wanderson, a young Philosophy graduate, represents another blow to a population already scarred by violence. This tragedy, one too many, challenges the entire nation and raises a demand for justice and security, both to honor the memory of the young student and to prevent new tragedies.
