PNH: Change at the Head of the Artibonite Departmental Directorate

The General Directorate of the Haitian National Police (HNP) has made a change at the head of the Artibonite Departmental Directorate, following a series of mobilizations led by civil society organizations and prominent figures in the region.

Approximately 72 hours after a demonstration organized in Gonaïves to denounce the outgoing Departmental Director, Caleb Exantus, Divisional Commissioner Jean Frenel Beauvoir was appointed and installed in the position. The former director is accused of maintaining alleged ties with armed groups operating in the region.

The appointment of Commissioner Jean Frenel Beauvoir comes in a particularly tense context, where several armed groups are seeking to take control of strategic communes in the department, with the aim of imposing their law.

In this climate of widespread insecurity, the new departmental director will have to work to curb the spiral of violence, restore state authority, and regain the trust of the population.
